OPPORTUNITY: Applications Are Open for The NYC BigApps Blockchain Innovation Challenge, July 31
NYC BigApps Blockchain Innovation Challenge is an opportunity to work with NYC government and implement an idea on how to change the public sector with blockchain. The Challenge Areas include Identity, Real Estate Asset Management, and Energy. Applications are open until July 31st and can be found here along with more information.
OPPORTUNITY: NYC Center for Responsible AI, August 5
NYCEDC released an RFEI (link) seeking an operator or operators to implement the NYC Center for Responsible AI, an innovation, collaboration and applied research space designed to support the creation of responsible data science and AI in New York City. The Center will convene leaders from New York City startups, large companies, government, community and academia to participate in a set of programs that will establish ethical practices and build trust in this burgeoning technology. The submission deadline is August 5, 2019.
OPPORTUNITY: Apply to the MetaProp Accelerator at Columbia University, Deadline: August 15
Early stage proptech startups are invited to apply to join the world’s premier PropTech Accelerator Program (link). MetaProp is a 22-week program with financing up to $250,000 for startups focused on driving business growth and accelerated market penetration. Application deadline is August 15, 2019.

NYCEDC and MakerSpace NYC Launch New FutureWorks MakerSpace
In May, NYCEDC and Makerspace NYC launched the Futureworks Makerspace (link), a 20,000 square foot prototyping facility that provides small businesses and entrepreneurs affordable access to shared industrial grade machinery. The new facility, located at the Brooklyn Army Terminal (BAT), includes a wide range of manufacturing and industrial tooling available in New York City, allowing BAT tenants and business owners affordable access to advanced machinery, including industrial grade plasma cutters, 3-D Printers, laser cutters and more. New York City Wins Top Honors in American Cities of the Future Ranking
New York City has once again been named the Best Overall City in fDi’s American Cities of the Future rankings (link). New York was the highest-ranked city in multiple categories, including Major Cities, Economic Potential, Human Capital & Lifestyle, Connectivity, and FDI Strategy. This first-place ranking reflects the City’s position as an economic powerhouse and international leader in commerce.
